This day in History- Anderson Silva destroys Rich Franklin to start the most dominant title reign in UFC history

In October, 2006- Anderson Silva was 1-0 in the UFC but was already the number 1 contender. Rich Franklin was UFC champion and 2-1 favorite to defeat the UFC newcomer.

What most US fans didn’t know is that Anderson Silva had been a top fighter for years, having already been considered the number 1 170 and 185 fighter in the world previously by Sherdog. Hardcore fans knew Silva had a great chance, the casual viewers weren’t aware of just how good Silva was. They quickly found out.

This fight began a nearly 7 year title reign that led to a record breaking 16-0 UFC record for the Greatest.
