UFC Fight Night 83 was announced by the UFC Tuesday and scheduled three bouts for the upcoming event, including a middleweight match-up that will take place between Michael “The Count” Bisping (27-7, 17-7 in UFC) and former Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight champion- “The Dreammaker” Mousasi (37-6-2, 4-3 in UFC). The event is scheduled to take place in the O2 Arena in London, England on Feb. 27th. Broadcast plans are still TBD.
The other two bouts announced on the card included a featherweight fight with rising European prospect Makwan Amirkhani (12-2, 2-0 in UFC) vs. Mike Wilkinson (9-1, 2-1 in UFC) and a lightweight clash between TUF Smashes winner Norman Parke (21-4-1, 5-2-1 in UFC) and Rustam Khabilov (17-3, 3-2 in UFC)
MMAJunkie reported that a UFC official confirmed that the Bisping vs. Mousasi bout had yet to be finalized as the nights main event, telling MMAjunkie that “bout positioning on the card will follow in due course.”
Bisping is currently riding a two fight win streak over CB Dolloway and Thales Leites. “The Count” has also been on somewhat of an international tour as of late, having comepted in Australia, Canada, Macau, and Scotland over his past five fights. The 8th ranked UFC middleweight will enjoy a refreshening return home in London where he holds an impeccable 4-0 record under the O2 lights and in the city of London and a 6-0 record in the UK overall.
Mousasi will be looking to rebound off of a devastating upset loss to TUF veteran Uriah Hall where he was brutally knocked out by a spinning back kick-flying knee combination. Mousasi has found mixed success since coming to the UFC, barely forming a successful track record inside the octagon at only 4-3. No. 11th ranked UFC middleweight Mousasi will look to pick up his biggest UFC victory to date on paper, and hopefully start a successful run towards the UFC Middlweight championship.
