Frank Shamrock to support his brother Ken in Gracie Match

Bellator Gracie vs Shamrock

Despite their years of differences, foster brothers Ken and Frank Shamrock  are finally brought back for the upcoming bout against Ken’s former UFC rival Royce Gracie. Frank will be supporting Ken at Bellator 149 on February 19, where will face Gracie for the third time. Ken and Gracie first fought at UFC 1  in 1993 where Gracie won by submission, and the two fought to a draw at the Superfight of UFC 5.

The Shamrock brothers have had a very public feud over the past 20 years over their relationship with their foster father, Bob Shamrock. Frank Shamrock had left the family gym which called the Lion’s Den during his career and started his own fight team, which angered Ken. Ken became even more upset when Frank did not show up for their father’s funeral. Ken admits their relationship has not fully healed, but they are making progress.

“You gotta forgive and just gotta move forward,” Ken said. “And work with what you’ve got. I think me and Frank have been doing that slowly. He’s not fake; I’m not fake. So, it’s not like we’re gonna smile and hug each other and pretend like nothing ever happened, because it’s not true. But what we will do is recognize that we need to move forward, ” Ken told the news outlet MMA Fighting on Wednesday.

Ken will be doing his training camp in Dallas and will be coached by former Lion’s Den trainee Guy Mezger, who defeated future UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz in their first match. Frank will not be coming down to help Ken in the gym, he said, because he is retired from training is helping renew the Shamrock Boys Ranch for at-risk Kids which was started by their father. The Ranch was also how Ken and Frank became members of the Shamrock family. But Frank says he is happy to be working with his brother again.

Frank also spoke to MMA Fighting. “I’ve always loved Ken and never really had an issue with him.” It was kind of him with me. I’d like to think we’ve all grown and we’re back to being a family again. There was a huge part of my life where he was my teacher and he was my guiding force for a long time. Then he just wasn’t there. It was challenging. As a fighter and a student, he was the fighter I emulated. To lose that, it took a lot of searching and a lot of moving around until I was able to rebuild that guiding force again.”
