Not only did Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone lose the UFC Lightweight title fight against Rafael Dos Anjos, he has also lost some money. In the wake of UFC on Fox 17, it has been revealed that the fighter had worn an unauthorized piece on his UFC trunks that were a part of his old Muay Thai trunks. Cerrone claimed the trunk piece was worn as a dedication to his grandmother.
A Reebok policy states that during fight week, the fighters shouldn’t wear any material outside Reebok’s production line. That includes modifications, a violation in which two fighters besides Cerrone are also receiving fines for. Twelve other fighters received warnings.
“A payment reduction is enacted when a fighter knowingly and seriously violating a policy after receiving a oppurtunity to correct it. The guidelines, were clearly laid out for everyone, and it’s our responsibility to our partners that we are administrating all aspects of the policy,” UFC Vice President of Global Consumer Products Tracey Bleczinski had said to MMA Junkie.
