UFC 197 on April 23 has become Cormier v. Jones II

UFC197

It’s finally happening. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel ‘DC’ Cormer will face former Light Heavyweight Champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. The two will face each other at UFC 197 on April 23 for the title of the 205 lb. division title. The two had previously faced each other at UFC 182 in January 2015, where Jones won by unanimous decision.

Jones (UFC Record 15-1) was ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA light-heavyweight rankings, before he was stripped of his title and suspended following an April hit-and-run arrest. Cormier (UFC Record 6-1)  then stepped in and claimed the vacant belt with a submission win over No. 3-ranked Anthony Johnson in May. Cormier later defended the title in October against Alexander Gustafson, who gave Jones one of his toughest fights.

The co-main event will match the dominating Flyweight Champion Demetrius ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson (UFC Record 11-1-1)  with his 8th title defense against No. 4-ranked challenger Henry Cejudo (UFC Record 4-0). Cejudo is a former Olympic wrestler who is undefeated in the UFC and MMA, while Johnson is undefeated while fighting at Flyweight. Cejudo could prove to be his toughest challenge at the 125 lb. division.
