A new fight was announced on UFC Tonight on UFC 197: Cormier vs Jones II on April 23rd, which pits former UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis against rising contender Edson Barboza. The American and the Brazilian are known to be some of the best strikers in the Lightweight division, which will likely result in a brutal and possibly short slugfest depending on how the fight goes. The addition is sure to bring more sales on the pay-per view event which features the much anticipated rematch between Light-Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier and former Champion Jon Jones.
Pettis returns to action following back-to-back losses in consecutive fights against Rafael dos Anjos and Eddie Alvarez, and is hoping to make a comeback to get back on the road on regaining the UFC title whom he lost to Dos Anjos in 2015. Barboza on the otherhand is hoping to make a comeback after losing to Tony Ferguson at “The Ultimate Fighter” finale in December.
