A replacement for an opponent at UFC 196 against Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor may have already been found. Sources say that #5 Lightweight contender and crowd-favorite Nate Diaz will step for the main event against McGregor on March 5 in Las Vegas, NV.
Diaz had called out McGregor after beating Anthony Johnson at UFC on Fox: Dos Anjos vs Cerrone 2 in a foul-mouthed tirade. Both fighters are known for the blunt attitudes, taunting opponents, and using foul language and gestures.
UFC Lightweight Rafael Dos Anjos was set to fight McGregor until earlier today citing a broken foot. McGregor was hoping to be the first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously. Whether Dos Anjos will fight the winner remains to be seen. If McGregor fights Diaz it will most likely still be in the Lightweight division since that’s the division Diaz fights in.
