David Branch came and conquered Saturday night as he defended his WSOF Middleweight title for the first time against a game Clifford Starks
Despite early success on the feet from Starks, Branch would not be denied when it came down to all things grappling. Branch effectively attacked in the clinch, on the mat, and in the clinch. An early hiccup from Branch came in the second round when he landed an illegal knee that forced referee “Big” John McCarthy to deduct a point from the champion. Branch would not let that deter him from continuing his onslaught on the mat and landed several takedowns that would force Starks from any thoughts of offense across the remaining three rounds.
Starks is now a defending Middleweight champion. Question now is what may be next. Does he defend his 185 lb title again? Or does he move on up to defend his 205 lb belt for the first time?
