Tony Ferguson injured and out of UFC on FOX headliner , Evans vs. Teixeira promoted to main event

If you were in the need for a way to have life be sad and unfair for the day, look no further.

On Tuesday, the UFC and Fox Sports announced that top-ranked Lightweight and UFC on Fox 20 headliner Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson has pulled out of his main event slot against Khabib Nurmagomedov due to an apparent lung injury injury. The bout was all but assured to provide us with a number one contender to face reigning champ Rafael dos Anjos for the title.

With Ferguson out, Nurmagomedov has been removed from the card, further adding insult to the literal injury as the Russian has yet to fight since April of 2014, due to a string of his own injuries in the past. Khabib will instead be scheduled for a different bout at a later date.

Also, the Light Heavyweight match-up between former UFC champion Rashad Evans and Glover Teixeira has been promoted to the main event and has been rescheduled for five rounds. The original bout was to be between Rashad Evans and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, though Rua would bow out due to a minor injury and be rescheduled for a later bout in the Summer.

Evans will be looking to get back on track with a big win a week before UFC 197 where Jon Jones and Ovince St. Preux will compete for the UFC Interim Light Heavyweight title. Teixiera himself is looking to add a big win to his current run, coming into this bout on a two-fight winning streak. No announcement yet on which preliminary bout will get the honor of filling up the Fox main card, but stay tuned for more on that with us at MMAOutsiders.
