UFC Tonight Announces that Miesha Tate will face Amanda Nunes

On tonight’s episode of UFC Tonight, it was announced that current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate will face the infamous Brazilian striker Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 on July 9 at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, NV. Tate also just happened to be co-hosting UFC Tonight when the announcement was made, where she often serves as a commentator.

Tate, the former Strikeforce Champion, defeated former champion Holly Holm in an upset victory by rear-naked choke in the 5th round to win the belt in March. There was speculation that Tate would face a rematch with Holm or her former Strikeforce and UFC rival Ronda Rousey, who lost to Holm but has defeated Tate twice. Former contender Cat Zingano was another fighter campaigning to fight the new champion. Zingano had defeated Tate back in 2013, but Zingano has been inactive for over a year.

Her opponent Nunes has had three straight wins and a UFC record of 5-1 (her only loss was to Zingano). Her previous victories include a submitting former Olympic Wrestling silver-medalist and contender Sara McMann, and outpointing the Kyrgyzstani kickboxing champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 196.
