Sherdog.com says it can now confirm rumored reports that former Pride Heayweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko will face the former UFC Light-Heayweight/Heavyweight fighter Fabio Maldonaldo. The confirmation came on Sunday, after it was reported by the Brazilian fighting news outlet Combate.

Known as the “The Last Emperor,” Emelianenko is widely considered to have been one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time during his reign. At age 39, the Russian fighter came out of a three-year retirement to return to the cage at Rizin’s New Year’s Eve Event, where he defeated Jaideep Singh to submit to punches 3:02 in first round. Emelianenko has won his last four fights and owns a 35-4 career record. Emelianenko currently has a record of 34-4, and has been undefeated in his last four fights.

The former boxer and current MMA fighter Fabio Maldonaldo of Brazil has recently been released for the UFC. The 36-year old had suffered back-to-back losses in his previous fights with Quinton Jackson and Corey Anderson. While Maldonaldo mostly fought at the Light-Heavyweight division (205 lbs.), he did fight as an alternate against Stipe Miocic in May 2014, where he lost by knockout in 35 seconds of the first round. His fight with Emelianenko will be at Heavyweight (265 lbs.).
