One of mixed martial art’s most prominent and controversial stars has passed away.
Confirmed on Monday afternoon by multiple sources, after TMZ Sports reported that Kimbo Slice a.k.a Kevin Ferguson was admitted to the hospital in serious condition, Slice reportedly passed away from a heart attack. No foul play is suspected although local police were on scene at Ferguson’s residence because of his high profile nature.
Kimbo Slice was a prominent street fighter in his early days of stardom. No more than a street-fighting legend due to the success of his Youtube videos, Kimbo made the transition to MMA back in 2007 under the infamous and now defunct EliteXC promotion. He faced the likes of James Thompson and Tank Abbott, both fights which did record numbers on television that still hold up to this day.
Slice then took his talents further. Willing to truly test himself against the best in the world, Slice joined onto the 10th season of the Ultimate Fighter where he lost to eventual tournament winner Roy Nelson in the quarterfinals. His bout with Nelson is still to this the day the most watched episode in Ultimate Fighter history. He would go 1-1 in the UFC before getting cut.
Kimbo Slice passes away at the age of 42. He held 5-2 record in MMA and an undefeated 7-0 record in Boxing
