An entertaining Strawweight bout has been added to UFC 201.
Highly ranked “Thug” Rose Namajunas will take on undefeated Polish up-and-comer Karolina Kowalkiewicz at the July pay per view.
Namajunas (5-2, 3-1 in UFC) is coming off of one of the biggest victories of her career, not just because of the ranking significance, but because of the personal necessity as well. Namajunas defeated the previously undefeated Tecia Torres by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 19: Teixera vs. Evans this past April. Torres has defeated Rose earlier on in their careers back in 2013 at Invicta FC 6 by judges decision in Rose’s third fight career bout. Now having evened the score and currently riding a three-fight win streak, Rose will look to add to her impressive winning streak in taking on her second undefeated foe in a row. Of Rose’s five wins, four have come by submission.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz (9-0, 2-0 in UFC) casually yet easily defeated Heather Jo Clark at UFC Fight Night 87: Overeem vs. Arlovski last month in May by judges decision which mildly added to her UFC win streak setting it at two. Kowalkiewicz began her mixed martial arts career at the age of sixteen when she began training in Krav Maga. She later trained in Muay Thai and decided to make it a career. She won her Octagon debut against the highly touted Randa Markos by unanimous decision at UFC on Fox 17: dos Anjos vs. Cowboy last December. Of her 9 wins, Kowalkiewicz has two submissions and one knockout.
