After a stunning victory last May, Cody “No Love” Garbrandt will now get the chance to test himself against one of the most seasoned veterans of the Bantamweight division in Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202.
Garbrandt (9-0, 4-0 in UFC) is coming off the most impressive win of his career after knocking out highly ranked prospect Thomas Almeida in their main event bout at UFC Fight Night 89. Prior to this, Garbrandt had won three straight with two of those victories coming by way of knockout. The knockout win against Almeida garnered “No Love” a big splash into the rankings pool as he went from unranked in the UFC to the No. 7 ranking slot. Of his nine professionally, Garbrandt has finished eight of them by way of knockout.
Mizugaki (21-9-2, 8-4 in UFC) recently broke an unfortunate two-fight losing streak by defeating George Roop last fall by judges decision in Japan. Mizugaki is one of the more experianced fighters in the Bantamweight division with 17 total fights inside the UFC and WEC cages. Of Mizugaki’s 21 victories, only six of them has been earned by way of any finish.
UFC 202 will be headlined by Nate Diaz vs. Conor McGregor, and it will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
