UFC 202 just added two tremendous bouts to a growing card.
The light heavyweight bout between Johnson and Teixeira that was originally scheduled for UFC on FOX 20 will now serve as the co-main event for UFC 202 in Las Vegas on Aug. 20. Johnson withdrew from from the July 23 bout to take care of a serious family matter. UFC decided to pull Teixeira from the card and scrap the bout all together.
Johnson (21-5, 12-5) is coming off knockout wins over Jimi Manuwa and Ryan Bader following his loss to Cormier last year for the UFC Light Heavyweight title. Out of Johnson’s 12 Octagon wins Johnson has finished 10 of those bouts by knockout.
Texieira (25-4, 8-2 in UFC) currently rides a three-fight winning streak. His most recent win was a first-round knockout over former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, which earned him a “Performance of the Night” bonus. Of Glover’s eight wins seven have come by finish.
Cerrone (30-7, 17-4 in UFC)will look to capture his third win at welterweight. He had a successful 170-pound debut in February when he submitted Alex Oliveira with a triangle choke in the first round, then followed it up with a third-round finish over Patrick Cote. The “Cowboy” earned “Performance of the Night” bonuses in both fights.
Story (19-8, 12-6 in UFC) is riding a three-fight winning streak. He’s coming off a decision win over former Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec Saffiedine, which was his first fight in 18 months following an injury. Before the Saffiedine fight, Story went 2-1 in 2014, with wins over Leonardo Mafra and Gunnar Nelson and a split-decision loss to Kelvin Gastelum.
