In a shocking turn of events, Light-Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will now face former Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, at UFC 200. Silva still holds the record for being the longest reigning champion in UFC history, but his legacy was partly tarnished last year after being found guilty by the USADA for a doping violation. According to the Brazilian fight news syndicate Combate, the fight will now be a three round non-title fight instead of a five round title fight.
Silva’s last fight was a controversial loss to the current champion Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping, while Cormier’s last fight was a narrow win over Alexander Gustafsson. Bisping also campaigned to fight Cormier this weekend, but president Dana White ruled it out. Cormier will likely open up as a major favorite, but it would still be interesting to see how the fight goes.
