Jon Jones has been stripped of his interim Light Heavyweight Championship. He was originally suppose to fight Daniel Cormier for the Light Heavyweight Title but DC had to pull out because of an injury. Jon Jones was then matched up with Ovince Saint Preux and the fight was made a 5 round Interim Title match.
Jon won a 5 round decision against Ovince Saint Preux. The fight with Daniel Cormier was set up again for UFC 200, for the Light Heavyweight Championship. Jon was flagged by USADA and pulled from the event for a failed drug test. This was back in July.
Jon said his failed drug test was because of a tainted sexual performance pill he took. This led to Jon Jones being suspended for a year. The suspension is retroactive from the July date. Meaning his suspension will be up in July.
Not only was he pulled from UFC 200 and given a one year suspension. He has been stripped of his interim championship. I doubt that the interim title being stripped matters much to Jon, he wouldn’t let Dana White put the belt on him after his win against Ovince Saint Preux. Saying he wanted the real one, we can only wait and see what the future holds for Jon Jones. His personal life has been a mess and it’s effecting his career in many negative ways. No one can deny that Jon Jones is an amazing talent, but it means little if he can’t stay eligible.
It’s unclear who Jon will fight when his suspension is up in July, maybe they’ll put him right in there and give him a title shot, maybe they will make him beat a contender first, it’s hard to say. Jon Jones reminds me of Mike Tyson, personal and legal issues robbed Mike Tyson of competing in his prime, the same can be said for Jon Jones.
