Germaine de Randamie dealing with personal issues. Management says retirement rumors are false

Earlier in the week rumors came out that Germaine de Randamie, the women’s featherweight champion was considering retirement. Her manager has responded to those rumors

“She’s got things going on at home and stuff going on at police academy,” Brian Butler-Au of Suckerpunch Entertainment today told MMAjunkie. “The UFC’s aware of it, and we are working through it. That’s all I can say at the moment.”

Germaine is currently 7-3, we last saw her back on the UFC 208 card, where she won a decision over former women’s bantamweight champion, Holly Holm. The winner of that fight was suppose to get Cyborg. The fight had a lot of controversy, due to shots after the bell.

Germaine has stated that she wants to rematch Holly Holm, but Germaine may need surgery on her hand before that can happen.

Sam Alvey will break a UFC record tomorrow

We last saw Smiling Sam Alvey when he fought Nate Marquardt, on the UFC on Fox: Shevchenko vs Pena card. Sam came away with the win, putting him at 4 in a row and tying a UFC record.

The record Sam is set to break, is for most fights within a one year time frame. He currently has five, he is tied with Roger Huerta, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, and fellow welterweight Neil Magny.

Tomorrow on the UFC Fight Night: Swanson VS Lobov card, Sam will go head to head against Thales Leites. This will be his sixth UFC fight within a one year time frame, earning him the UFC record.

It really is a significant record and a sign of how durable Sam is. We see so many fighters plagued with injuries and unable to fight. Some fighters are lucky to be able to fight 6 times in 3 years.

After Sam fights Thales Leites, he will still have 2 months before his one year window is up, meaning he could actually go for a 7th fight. That would really set the bar and make it one of the hardest records in the UFC to break.

Rumble Johnson and Chris Weidman both to file appeal’s to NYSAC

Well UFC 210 has come and gone, but not without controversy. As many of you already know, Daniel Cormier weighed in at 206.4. After DC stepped off the scale, He left the weigh-in area for less than three minutes, then returned and weighed in at 205.

During the second weigh-in attempt, Daniel Cormier grabbed the towel that was being held up in front of him. DC has said that he was grabbing the towel to hide his junk and that it had no effect on the weigh-in.

Earlier this week a video came out with two professional fighters who did a demonstration showing that grabbing the towel could actually effect the weigh-in, helping to hide some weight.

Johnson’s manager Ali Abdelaziz, told ESPN that the Johnson camp will file a complaint with the New York State Athletic Commission “sometime this week” and that he had informed UFC President Dana White of their intentions to do so, before the fight.

“I understand New York is new to regulating mixed martial arts, but they’ve been doing boxing for a long time,” Abelaziz added. “Everybody is trying to sweep this under the rug, but it’s not going to happen.”

Now to switch gears. Former middleweight champ Chris Weidman is also filling an appeal with the New York State Athletic Commision. Chris went up against Gegard Mousasi. The fight ended in the second round in one of the weirdest endings we have seen in the UFC.

The ref called for a pause in action in the second round. Chris ate a couple knees that were deemed illegal, after calling pause and telling Wiedman he has 5 minutes to recover, the ref left the cage only to return moments later telling Wiedman it was actually a legal knee.

This was very strange because they told Chris it was a legal knee, but said New York didn’t have a replay rule, so no replays were allowed to be used, but they did use a replay just moments after pausing the action and made their judgement from the replay.

The fight was then called a TKO victory for Gegard, putting Chris Weidman on a three fight losing streak. Chris had this to say about the situation.

“If it was a legal knee, I would have loved to have just kept fighting. It shouldn’t have been stopped, but the ref, at the end of the day, is the one who made a judgement call, and in the state of New York, his word is what counts.”

Cerrone And Lawler Set For UFC 213. Who You Got?

Espn’s Brett Okamoto reported has reported today that former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler will face former lightweight contender Donald Cerrone at UFC 213 on July 7. The two were originally supposed to fight at Madison Square Garden at UFC 205, but Lawler stated he needed more time from his knockout loss to current champion Tyrone Woodley.
Both fighters are known for their striking and punching power. Lawler tends have a more of a boxer-swarmer style of stalking his opponents and wearing them down at close range. Cerrone’s fighting is more of a calculated Muay Thai style that relies more on long range kicking. Cerrone tends to be slower starter, but is quick to explode once he finds his rhythm.
