It wasn’t even close. Early in round 1, Rakhmonov caught a body kick, got an easy takedown and mostly dominated from top position, though Neil was able to stall out the last minute of the round with a heel hook attempt.
Round 2 another early takedown and once again managed to hold top control, attempt a couple chokes and land ground and pound. Neil never looked in much danger of being stopped until the last few seconds when Rakhmonov grabbed a guillotine and with just a couple seconds left Magny tapped.
It’s worth noting that a prime Demian Maia had a similar level of top control on Magny in their fight but he was not able to finish Magny. Rakhmonov did. We may have a future champ. After the fight Rakhmonov said he liked the prospect of a fight with two time title contender, Stephen Thompson.
