Top Gun: Maverick becomes the first film of 2022 to pass $1 billion worldwide

Batman couldn’t do it, Marvel couldn’t do it but Tom Cruise did. Top Gun Maverick has officially passed 1 billion dollars worldwide gross and 500 million domestic, making not only the years biggest hit but Tom Cruise’s biggest hit ever.

The film isn’t just a huge financial success; it’s also a huge critical success with a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an audience approval of 99% on the same site.

With a box office performance like that, we may be getting a third installment at some point because it’s unlikely the studio will want to sit on such a hot movie property. It is only the 50th movie of all time to hit 1 billion worldwide. And it’s the 15th highest grossing domestic film ever and still growing quickly!

Another big note is that Top Gun: Maverick finished number 1 in America again this week despite being its 5th week in release. Beating out the more recently released films like Jurassic world: Dominion, Lightyear and Elvis.
