Rory MacDonald spent the entire fight forcing them fight to the fence and attempting takedowns against the underdog, Sy. But no matter how many attempts he made he just couldn’t get the takedowns. Sy seemed to land more strikes but most were up close and not extremely effective. In round 3, Sy did land a takedown of his own and a few good strikes.
The fan score went to Rory 30-27, both couture and Florian also scored the fight for Macdonald. However the judges didn’t see it this way.
Sy won this close fight. But Rory still qualifies for the PFL world champion playoff tournament, and is still the number 1 seed due to his first round finish in his previous fight with Brett Cooper
