McGregor VS Mayweather is a hot topic, lets not forget about UFC 214

The Conor McGregor VS Floyd Maweather show is going on. If you are a part of any MMA groups you know by now it’s about all anyone can talk about. Lets put that to the side for now and preview UFC 214, an awesome MMA card. UFC 214 will have 3 title fights.

Jon Jones ( 22 – 1 ) VS Daniel Cormier ( 19 – 1 )

This fight is a rematch from UFC 182, back in 2015. Jon Jones came away with the decision. Handing Daniel Cormier his first and only loss. As everyone knows Jon has had some personal issues that had his title stripped and then had to serve a suspension. The fall out of Jon being stripped of his Light Heavyweight Title led to a new champion, Daniel Cormier.

Daniel Cormier won the vacant title in a fight against Anthony Johnson back at UFC 187, May 23rd 2015. He has defended the title twice. A fight against Jon Jones was replaced with a fight against Anderson Silva at UFC 200 in a non title fight. I speak for all fight fans when I say I can’t wait to see these guys to finally fight again.

Tyron Woodley ( 17 – 3 – 1 ) VS Demian Maia ( 22 – 6 )

This one is for the Welterweight Championship. Demian Maia is riding a 7 fight win streak and has finally earned his shot at the title. His last 3 wins came against Jorge Masvidal, Carlos Condit and Matt Brown.

Standing in his way is Tyron Woodley. Tyron took the belt in violent fashion against Robbie Lawler, a first round knock out of the reigning welterweight king. His last two were against Stephan Thompson, the first one was a draw and the second one Woodley came away with the majority decision. It wasn’t a very exciting fight but Woodley turned it up in the 5th round and got his hand raised.

Cyborg ( 17 -1 – 1 ) Vs Tonya Evinger  ( 19 – 5 – 1 )

Our third title fight on the card. This one for the women’s Featherweight Title. Germaine de Randamie was stripped of her title for refusing to fight Cyborg. This division was made for Cyborg, the dream fight back in the day was always Cyborg VS Ronda Rousey but the 135 weight class was to big of a cut, even 140 was tough. Now that there is a 145 pound division, we finally have Cyborg in a UFC title fight.

Her opponent, Tonya Evinger. Tonya will be making her UFC debut, a title fight isn’t a bad way to introduce yourself. Originally Megan Anderson was going to be Cyborg’s opponent but she was forced to pull out.

Robbie Lawler ( 27 – 11 – 1 ) VS Donald Cerrone ( 32 – 8 – 1 )

This fight could easily be a main event on another card, this tells you just how stacked UFC 214 really is. Robbie Lawler is coming off a loss against Tyron Woodley. Lawler lost his title in that fight. He took almost a year off and now here he is going back to work. This fight was suppose to be on UFC 213 but Donald was forced to pull out, so it was rescheduled for this card.

Donald Cerrone is coming off a loss to Jorge Masvidal. You have to wonder if Donald fights to often, not leaving his body time to heal. He certainly didn’t look like himself in his last fight, he was coming off a war with Matt Brown and takes a fight against Jorge Masvidal just 6 weeks later.

This is one of those fights that it’s hard to make an educated guess who will win. I will tell you who wins in this one, the fans do !

Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson official for UFC 210

The rematch is now official, we will see Daniel Cormier attempt to defend his light heavyweight championship against Anthony Johnson on the UFC 210 card. The card will take place April 8th, and will also feature Chris Wiedman VS Gegard Mousasi. DC and Rumble had their first fight back on the UFC 187 card. Daniel Cormier finished Johnson with a third round submission. Since then Rumble Johnson has been smashing the division.

Beating top contenders Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira by first round knock out. We last saw the champ, Daniel Cormier back in July, on the UFC 200 card. Daniel Cormier took on Anderson Silva, he won the fight by unanimous decision. The rematch between DC and Rumble was expected to be on the UFC 206 card, DC had to pull out because of an injury.

This will be a good match up, Anthony Johnson is a real knock out artist, finishing his last 5 wins all by knock out. Anthony Johnson has never held the title and this will be his second time challenging for it. While Daniel Cormier will be looking to defend his light heavyweight title for the second time. Jon Jones is the only man to ever beat Daniel Cormier. Jon’s suspension is up in July, meaning the winner of this fight may get him next.

Gegard Mousasi, Alexander Gustaffson make plea for bout with Daniel Cormier following Jones removal from UFC 200.

Following the unfortunate removal of Jon Jones from the UFC 200 championship main event due to a potential USADA anti-doping violation, Daniel Cormier finds himself possibly missing out on competing in arguably the greatest UFC card in history. After the announcement of Jones removal however, Dana White hinted that an opponent for Cormier was not off the table just yet.

During a Las Vegas press conference, UFC president Dana White indicated that a new opponent for Cormier hadn’t been ruled out.

“Maybe someone will pop up and fight Cormier at the last minute,” White said. “Stranger things have happened.”

Not long after the announcement, a handful of capable fighters made their desires to compete against the current Light Heavyweight champion known. Most notably Gegard Mousasi and top ranked Light Heavyweight Alexander Gustaffson.

Gustaffson, who gave out an apparent timeline last night might be too far away to be considered the actual replacement. Gegard Mousasi however may be the favorite to be awarded this fight. After all, he’s already in Vegas getting set to compete against Thiago Santos in the UFC Fight Pass preliminary portion of Saturday nights card.

Gegard Mousasi has competed for a good portion of his career at Light Heavyweight. He has won Light Heavyweight gold in both DREAM and Strikeforce and holds wins in that division against the likes of Evangelista Santos, Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Sokoudjou, Hector Lombard, Ilir Latifi, Mike Kyle, and Ovince St. Preux.

Cormier and Co. stand to lose quite the paycheck should they miss out on competing on this historic card. With all variables considered it would appear Gegard Mousasi is the best potential candidate to come into this bout and face the current 205 lb champion.

BREAKING: Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones II official for UFC 200

Well it was just a matter of time.

After Jon Jones defeated Ovince Saint Preux last Saturday at UFC 197 to win the Interim UFC Light Heavyweight championship, many fans and media believed that the grudge match between the division’s best rivals would finally come to fruition, and at the years grandest spectacle.

Sure enough, that seems to be the case as has reported that the rematch over a year in the making will indeed take place at the summer event. Soon after the matchup was official after an announcement made on Good Morning America Wednesday Morning.

The two men were set to meet oat UFC 197 last Saturday. However Cormier pulled from the bout citing an injury and was replaced by “OSP” on three weeks notice also changing the bout to an Interim title fight.

This is the second main event set in place for the historic event after Conor McGregor was controversially removed from the headlining spot opposite Nate Diaz in a rematch of their UFC 196 Welterweight bout which saw Diaz pull off the massive upset in a second round submission victory. UFC President Dana White cited McGregor’s unwillingness to participate in promoting the card as the reasoning for the bout being scratched.

It is not yet confirmed if Nate Diaz will also be pulled from the card although at a press conference last week, Diaz stated that if he wasn’t fighting McGregor, then he would be “taking a vacation.

UFC 200 takes place July 9th at the newly built T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

RUMOR: Daniel Cormier may be out of UFC 197 title fight due to injury.

When it is today of all days, it’s hard to believe most, if not all, insane news that you see when it comes to MMA. Which makes delivering this specific sort of news confusing. Multiple sites have been siting for “breaking” the news after the site stated that a close source informed them that Cormier would be unable to make it to UFC 197. Many multiple sites such as MMAMania and MMAFighting are choosing to believe and have run the story.

This writer is certainly remaining wary and will be looking for more legitimate evidence, at least until it is no longer April 1st.

However, if it does prove to be true that the current Light Heavyweight champion is in fact injured and unable to compete at UFC 197, top Light Heavyweight and former title challenger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has already stated that he would be willing and ready to step in on short notice and compete at UFC 197. Making the possibility of an interim Light Heavyweight championship fight the next likely option if the UFC wishes to keep Jon Jones on this card.

More news to come as we get it Outsiders. Stay tuned.
